‘KITTS FINISHES VGT YEAR IN STYLE AT KINGS LINKS’
On a crisp, Scottish-like day to finish the 2009 VGT season, 25 year old Nanaimo Professional Mark Kitts proved to his peers he can play, shooting 2-under par 70 to take the Augusta VGT Tour Championship title. Kitts’ steady round of golf earned him $1,300 and moved him into the top 20 of the CLEVELAND GOLF/SRIXON CANADA Order of Merit. Kitts has been a regular on the VGT this season after missing his card for the Canadian Tour this year. “Its been great to have the VGT to play on this year and a great experience for me to play with so many great players as I make my way back onto the Canadian Tour and beyond in the future” stated Kitts. Kitts was handed the winners’ trophy after both Phil Jonas and Dan Swanson failed to appear for the sudden death playoff at the conclusion of play due to work commitments. Jonas (Kitts’ coach) joked when he heard he had lost in the ‘playoff’, stating that Mark’s (Kitts) lesson fees just went up. Jonas and Swanson shared 2nd and 3rd place money, each earning $875 moving them into 3rd and 4th place respectively on the 2009 CLEVELAND/SRIXON ORDER OF MERIT at the conclusion of the VGT season.
In amateur play, it was one of VGT’s sponsors Steve Savage of Nickel Heating who prevailed in the Championship Division, shooting a very solid round of 73 (+1), winning himself a $250 gift card from Perfect Lies. In Flight A action, Masa Takahashi of Meadow Gardens took low gross honours with a score of 78, one shot better than West Vancouver’s Michael Woods. Low Gross in Flight B went to George Mark of Maple Ridge with a score of 77. Both Takahashi and George also won Perfect Lies Gift Cards valued at $250.
