It’s a sad statistic, but breast cancer will most likely touch your life in some way if it hasn’t already. One in nine women is expected to develop breast cancer in her lifetime. In 2009, an estimated 22,900 women were diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,400 lost their fight against this devastating disease.
Golf Fore the Cure is a program developed by the RCGA in an effort to further engage women in the game of golf and aid in the fight against breast cancer.
In conjunction with the Canadian Cancer Society and Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, we have added awareness and fundraising components to this women’s participation program that have contributed to fund lifesaving breast cancer research, support and information programs for women faced with this disease across the country.
With the help of volunteers in various Canadian communities, Golf Fore the Cure has raised more than $2.5 million dollars and exposed more than 45,000 women to the game of golf in just the past six years. . With just under 6 million golfers in Canada, imagine the impact we could make if we doubled or even tripled the number of women participating.
Golf Fore the Cure is looking for women across the country to come together and enjoy a fun day of golf and friendship this upcoming golf season. This innovative program was developed to allow women to participate with old friends and new friends alike.
Even if you are not a golfer there are ways to get involved. Be a part of this cause - be a participant, be a site organizer, help make a difference!
Registration for the 2010 Golf Fore the Cure program will be open Monday, March 1st. New to the program this year, both event coordinators and participants will be able to register to host or participate in an event online at www.rcgagolfforethecure.ca .
With your help, we can get even more women involved in the game of golf and help to create a future without breast cancer. One round can make a difference!
