Sport BC honoured outstanding contributions to the BC sporting community on Tuesday at the 43rd Annual Athlete of the Year Awards presented by TELUS.
Athletes, coaches, volunteers and officials from across the province were recognized with an award from 17 distinct categories, celebrating the recipients’ achievements and dedication to sport.
BCGA golfers were the recipients of two awards:
Jackie Little, Master Athlete of the Year
At age 50, Jackie won four BC titles, two Canadian titles and 2 USA titles earning a ranking of #30 in Canadian Women and fourth in BC. Not only did she capture the BC Senior Woen's title with the lowest aggregate 54-hole score, she is the only player to win the title under par.
Eugene Wong, Junior Male Athlete of the Year
With three BC titles and one international title, Eugene is the first player to win the BC Secondary School Championship, BC Junior Boys' and BC Amateur in the same year which has earned him the top spot in BC and Canada for juniors, and second in BC and Canada for amateur men.
