“Oliver Twists his way to the top at the Ridge”
At VGT’s Inaugural Amateur Series event at Northview’s Ridge course this Sunday, it was Maple Ridge’s James Oliver who withstood the rigors of “Championship Sunday Pins” to outlast 81 Amateur competitors on this day. Oliver’s round consisted of five birdies enroute to an even par 72 and a one shot victory over his next competitors Chris Kobler of Royalwood Golf Club and Coquitlam’s Matthew Rohatensky. Some great birdies on 16 and 18 by Oliver and late bogeys by Kobler on 18 and Rohatensky on 17 kept this event from going into a sudden death playoff. For his victory, Oliver won $200 in Perfect Lies Gift Certificates and a Galvin Green Windstopper pullover. His victory also earned him 600 valuable points and vaulted himself to the top of the CLEVELAND GOLF/ SRIXON CANADA Order of Merit (Championship Flight) with 1,280 points. Kobler’s t2nd place finish in the event moved him into 2nd place in the VGT Amateur OOM after 5 events. Both Oliver and Kobler have been a meausure of consistency so far this year having finished in the top 10 of each Championship Amateur events they have played thus far.
In Flight A of the VGT Northview Ridge classic, it was Port Moody’s Andre Maille who clutched up with a birdie on 18 to take low honours with a gross score of 77, one stroke ahead of Belmont Golf Club’s Brendan Lal. Maille took home $200 in Perfect Lies GC’s and a Galvin Green Shirt and edged himself to within 200 points of Guildford’s Steve Smith who leads the CLEVELEND/SRIXON OOM for Flight A.
In Flight B results, Maple Ridge’s George Mark took Low Gross honours with a score of 83 winning himself a Cleveland Hibore rescue club, beating his local Northview regular David Patterson by 3 shots.
