Golf Course Review - McCleery Golf Course

We finally completed one of our golf goals which was playing each of the Vancouver Parks Golf courses this year. Our tour concluded with a visit to McCleery Golf Course a couple of weeks ago. We were looking forward to the visit after of a number of improvements they had made to the course maintenance and driving range.

Jeff's Opinion: On arrival we decided to hit the bucket of "warm-up" balls McCleery offers which was perfect at 25 practice balls to loosen up. While there is not a lot of trouble on the course, from most tee off boxes the driver areas appear much tighter than they are (which was a good thing). The greens rolled very true making putting a lot of fun. All players in our group made a couple of good putts. If there is a knock on the course it would be that some fairways were starting to show burn out due to the recent heat. Some extra irrigation may help. It was a fun day on the course and I would play it again. The variety of holes (particularly on the back nine) made the course a challenge. The Par 3 holes holes from the back tees were tough, with two of them over 200 yards.

Tara's Opinion: I enjoyed the fact that the course has five par three’s instead of the usual four because they give me a better chance at par. This was a good day in fact because with the help of some good putts on the smooth greens I was able to par 4 out of the 5 par threes (but don’t ask the score on the rest of the holes). I enjoyed the layout and the length of the red tees at just over 5,000 yards. But it is worth walking back to the blue tees to see the full design of the holes. While the staff were great and attentive, I did find the golf shop lacking in ladies clothing selection and both the clubhouse interior and the menu could use an upgrade. In any event it was a great day of golf.

We would recommend this course as fun to play multiple times per year!
